Version 1 Current »

This page contains a kind of check list which shall help us decide whether a new release of a game is so different from previous releases that it qualifies for a new release group (RG).

The construct of the RG has been invented to separate the released main versions of a game from each other. "Main versions" doesn't mean smallish changes, but significant gameplay changes that should be distinguishable from one another in the database from a documentation point of view.

Things that require a new RG

  1. Game release at a new platform

Things that do not matter for the decision

  1. Localization

A different language usually doesn't matter, as these are documented otherwise, but see one exception below.

  2. Patches / Updates

Only full releases can cause a new RG.

  3. Special releases

A new RG is caused due to gameplay differences, not due to a fancy new box, a voluptuous manual, additional goodies, or other stuff.
